Finally got the beast installed. Couple problems. Was about to bolt it
down and operated the linkage and discovered part of the linkage for the
vacuum secondaries collided with the manifold. So had to use a thick base
gasket. Also needed a different fuel hose fitting. So off I went back to
the local Kragen to pick this items up. Got the gasket ok which also needed
longer studs to reach. The fuel fitting proved impossible. Needed an L
shaped fitting in order to clear the air cleaner. Nothing there so went to
AutoZone, then Home Depot, nothing found so went to another city where a
large PepBoys is. Nothing, finally another AutoZone and since they had a
Holley like mine on the shelf I could try different fittings and threads.
Nothing found. Not even in the box from Holley or a $10 fancy chrome
fitting seemingly meant for this. Then I thought maybe a power steering
fitting or brake line fitting. Bingo. Fit the thread Ok but still needed
an L shape so had to bend my own. Works but amazed at the hassle.
The fuel fitting is on the opposite side as the old one so needed about 6
feet more of fuel hose to go around. Linkage for the AT kickdown won’t
adjust enough for full throttle for some reason. Not sure what to do about
that. Fired it up on starting fluid since there was lots of air in the
lines and the carb bowls and using a mechanical pump. Once the carb had
fuel it ran nice. Couldn’t get a good idle however but then I ran out of
daylight before I could wire up the electric choke. So, thus far is very
promising. Needs a little more fiddling.
Anybody need my old Holley Double Pumper, 4150, 650fcm, mechanical
secondaries, manual choke?
