[Lumps!] Oil pressure can you have to much

Just replaced my long since failed sending unit.

At idle its giving 35-45 PSI
On the move it gives 50-55 PSI

I know the rule of thumb for chev v8’s is 10 psi per 1000 rpms. Is
there any problem with mine having much higher oil pressure.

Thanks,–

No, it is only the Jaguar gauges ‘‘indicated’’ pressure, unless
independently confirmed with another mechanical gauge. If you
purchased three different senders, the results would probably vary
a lot.

Meaning = approximate oil pressure to be used ‘‘as a guide’’. My S1’s
both show the same ‘‘on the move’’ pressure. The idle pressure is
lower than those shown on both cars with totally different age and
types of SBC engine.

Pressure can be dependent on the weight oil you are using, good
quality filter and the temperature outside and the engine
temperature.–

I’ve had 40 psi at idle from a mechanical gauge so I’m assuming the
jaguar senders reading is accurate.

Probably nothing to worry about I guess its a change from worrying
if I have any oil pressure.

Great, then I understand your relief. Use the gauge as trend
reference; zero should be big convern and overall lower at times
might mean ‘‘something’’.

I have mapped the water temps from the Jaguar gauge, post the new
stabilizer, and they match the readings from the Autoxray scanner
reading in real time mode.

N = 180 These are plus/minus 5 - 10 degrees as the Jag
O = 185 gauge mvoes so slowly - up and down.
R = 190
M = 200
A = 210
L = ??? never seen that high on the gauge as the LT1 fan comes on
at 215 water temp which appears to be around the A-L.

When the car is moving slowly in traffic, N-O is the ‘‘normal’’ spot
or even lower at highway speeds.–

Thats about what my temp gauge sits at to. Good to have an idea
what it indicates.

I have reached the L myself once while waiting in a queue for a
ferry for about 40mins. The temperature dropped pretty quickly once
the car was on the move again though. A shroud for the engine
driven fan or an electric fan conversion are also on the to do list.–

Depends what you are doing. 15-20 PSI at hot idle is normal
for a small block at hot Idle. 50-60 psi is high. Usually
these pumps go with a 6-8 qt pan. Normal driving probably fine.

High speed cornering or any racing, might starve the pump.
Just my opinion.–
