[Lumps!] Piddlin' around tonight

Hey Gang;

Been lurking around, keeping tabs on everyone, haven’t done much
on my Jag since moving to San Antonio. Been busy unpacking, setting
up the garage, taking care of the hundred things that comes with a
cross country move.

Well I’ve got some fluorescent lamps to put up tonight in the
garage (shop) some more shelves to install, & hopefully I can get
started on saddle soaping the seats, & starting to do some of the
change over of stuff from my parts car that I had in Phoenix, that
I hauled over to Texas with me (the parts, not the car).

Money been pretty tight, so I have not been able to do any parts
buying, Waiting till I can get some spare cash so that I can have
my spare gas tanks, boiled out, & pressure tested & repaired if
needed, as this is my next major repair. Once I can get the tanks
cleaned & sealed, then I will start buying the new tank sending
units, diverter valves, hoses, gaskets & such to get the fuel
delivery system repaired.

So until I can do any parts buying, I will be working on switching
out the seats, (after saddle soaping them) repairing the sunroof,
installing the kick panel fresh air vents that I removed from my
parts car, & will start changing the dash over to the '84 XJ6 style.
plenty of busy work stuff to do till I have some money.

Hope everyone is doing well, just wanted to drop a line to let
everyone know I’m still alive & kicking, Smitty told me the other
night when I talked to him on the phone, that I’ve been to quiet.

So, ya’all have a great weekend, drive safe.

Very Respectfully,

All I can say Gary is save the money and give it a go yourself.
I’ve just finished doing mine using the por15 fuel tank kit and
they have come out fine. I even rebuilt the fuel sender units.
Fiddly but if you take your time it shouldn’t be a problem. The
wire wheel got rid of the rust on them (been sitting a while).

good luck.–

Dene;

Only bad thing is these tanks are so full of rust, that when you
tilt the tanks, or turn them around, it sounds like a waterfall.
So I think, that they will have to be boiled clean.

When I am able to do the work, I will leave nothing to chance,
since I was brought up, with the practice of, of if you have it
apart, you replace everything that is related to the job with new,
(I.E. when you do a clutch, you replace the pressure plate,
throwout bearing, & that other piece inside the flywheel that I
can’t think of right now)

I have had a problem with the fuel smell in this car, & I have
replaced the fuel feedline, & the fuel return line, I have a
problem with one of the diverter valves, the fuel gauge has decided
not to work now, the left tank has a crack in the seam, so when I
drive it I run on one tank, with no idea as to how much gas I have
in it & with the price of gas these days, can’t really afford to
fill up every other day.

So when I get to do the tanks, I will replace EVERYTHING, all the
fuel hose’s that I have not replaced yet, even all the vent lines,
new filters, new gaskets, new diverter valves, new sending units,
new floats, etc., etc., etc. as I really don’t want to do this
again for quite awhile.

So, its just a matter of being paitent.
