[Lumps!] Reverse Lump Interior

I have a 1964 Buick Riviera that I would like to finish in a
Brit manner in some areas. Could anyone tell me the length
of the wood door caps on an XJS. I would like to try them on
my car if they are close. I am planning a redo of the
interior in gray with maroon piping and the XJS style trim.
A Lynx leaps too,And it is a 6.9 liter.

I can’t say for all, but for the two I have taken apart the
door trim top is a formed metal piece, covered by
upholstery. There is a wood trim piece set in the face of
the door card, is this the piece you are asking about?–

Bernie:

The odds of a Jaguar door cap
fitting your RIV door are
similar to those on the slots
at Vegas.

Might not be wood any way, or
at best, a thin veneer on metal.

I’ve two ideas:

  1. Find some nice wood and laboriously
    carve to fit. Fabulous opportunity
for a lasting finish. Gun stock or
    furniture comes to mind.

  2. Fit some real veneer to your metal
caps. Steaming might be the way.

  3. Way back, son and I found a contact paper
in woods grain that matched the Squire
trim on the &3 Rancher. Fake, but very attractive.

Sharing pictures, even if it isn’t
a Jaguar???

Thank you for the comments.
I was miss-remembering the XJS I had when I joined the
group. I found one to look at and measure. Turns out the ‘64
Riviera door is 42’’. The XJS is 34’’.

But once looking it over I realized I was remembering my
Mark VII style door wood, The XJS is a typical panel with
wood trim.

It is good to have this resource.
