[Lumps!] TPI Throttle Linkage - cable source?

I think the John’s Car kit included a throttle cable, but looking at the
list of items provided, I can not be sure. Anyway, what I have works
fine and I will send Wes an image of my cable connecting at the TPI
linkage.

Cruise Control: I have not spent anytime checking out the Jag cruise
control which mechanically should still work. It still connects
somewhere to the accellerator foot pedal linkage and a vacuum hose is
connected to the Jag cruise bellows assembly but this is not the subject
of this thread.

Hi Gang,
Strangely enough the throttle cable set up was one of the easiest parts to
hook-up (for me anyway). I followed the instructions in the “JAGS THAT RUN”
do it yourself manual. My manual has the instructions on pages 8-8 thru 8-10
it shows (both in text and pictures) how you can easily convert the Jaguar
throttle cable setup to the Chevy linkage by simply devising a throttle cable
clip and adapting it to connect the Jag cable to the Chevy carburator
linkage.(sorry if your car is EFI equipped, this how to is for Carbs only)
But call Terry Cable @(619)244-9351. Mike Knell the author of the JAGS THAT
RUN manual highly recommends them and at the prices quoted ($25.00) sounds
very reasonable if it hasn’t gone up in price. My book is 10 yrs. old! But if
you indicate your needs, I’m sure that they’ll accomodate your request. Also
I think a bit of prudence is best when referring to established businesses
(i.e. Johns) they’ve been in business for more years than most of the
competition so they’re doing obviously doing something right! Albert

I agree, and in Johns defense; I have done business with him for years and I
am a satisfied customer. I’ve installed several johns kits with satisfactory
results. His kits don’t include any secret throttle cable, just easy
instructions to modify your stock cable using a few simple parts ( included
in his kit). I have been using this arrangement in my own carburated car for
over six years with no problems.
He also stocks and sells new parts, and improved aftermarket parts to replace
many high failure jaguar items, some of his own design and/or exclusive
manufacture, many carry a lifetime guarantee.
Johns advertised policy, as far as conversions go, is to sell complete kits
only.
Don’t write him off because he kept his word,…he’s like that… He’s a good
source and very knowledgable, and has helped me out more than once.
Usual disclaimer, no affiliation or interests etc etc etc
Have fun, Rich

I have to agree with Rich and Albert. I started my lump for the first time on
Christmas eve, drove it (illegally) on Christmas day. My gift to me. Used John’s
OSD kit. The kit was exactly what John said. No more - no less. Included a new
throttle cable that fit perfectly. The TPI wiring was quite a challenge, but the
car started the first time!
I purchased some other parts from John’s and I am pleased with the quality and
service. --JB

I think John will not mind if I say that he has little patience with
folks who do not do business with him, i.e. either buy conversion kits
from other sources or make their own, and who then want to pick his
brain for tips on how to solve the problems they run into. IMO this is
not an unreasonable attitude for John or any other vendor to have.

We still recall one customer who called us for advice about installing a
part. When we pointed out that he had priced the part from us but had
not ordered it, he admitted that he had bought the part from another
source who was slightly cheaper but they wouldn’t or couldn’t help him
with him problem! Needless to say, we declined to assist him.

We should all remember that the lowest price is not always the best
deal.

Though in some part I agree with Greg and others concerning John’s and
their way of doing business, I disagree at this point.
This list is to help ALL Jag-Lovers, if you buy from me or not, it
doesn’t matter. I feel that if you get info from me that helps you out
then one day you may buy from me. If not you may refer others to me,
because I was willing to help, when others were not.
You would be surprised at how much business I get from referral, because
I was willing to help when someone else would not.
My business was built on helping others not just selling them the whole
kit. Take Jim Johnson at SunCoast Conversion, I cannot think how many
people I have sent to him, because he is willing to help.

OK folks,
All have made valid points.
Let’s not turn this into a “Vendors War”
There is plenty of info on most vendors,
both positive and negative…in the archives.
No need to rehash it again.
Let this be the last of it.

Thank You
Charlie
