[Lumps!] XK8 With LS1 power

So with the weather great out here I;ve been doing double time on my XK8. That car is getting a 2004 GTO LS1 powertrain, and it;s been a great project so far. Luckily, much of what was learned on my earlier XJ8-LS1 project has carried over, so this has been more packaging than engineering.

The car is pretty far along, and I’ve posted a few pics of the installation as it is now, at about 90% done. Have a look and let me know what you think.

This sort of conversion is very practical- let me know if you have any questions. This is all brand new and none of it has even been published on our website yet. You’re getting the exclusive preview…

Thanks

Actually, that area in the engine compartment is where the stock air box was, and there is a hole in the fenderwall side to the outside there. So all I need is a filter and a dividing wall. So not too bad.

What’s nice is that air intake system is a K&N package that is smog legal for this motor in California…

What was the weight difference in the two motors/transmission?–

Roger

I think they were very close- within 100 lbs or so. the XJ8 felt pretty much the same as other XJ8’s I;d driven (except for the power of course)

That has to be one of the all time nicest swaps. Great stuff Mr. A
I will be watching your progress with interest. This is good stuff.
I will bet there will be a lot of ‘‘engine less’’ Xk8 s available in
the future. I’d be interested in the ‘‘numbers’’ Acceleration, fuel
mileage stuff. Sweet ride.–

Andrew, This is great news for those of us who want an XK8, but not
the weak 4.0 that goes with it. Are you planning on this being a
kit for the public in the future?

Also, you’ll be hearing from me soon as Ijust purchsed an 82 xj6
with a blown motor. I had a lump in the past but had to sell her
off in the divorce. It will be nice to be back with the cats again.–
