Mark IV with a different type of engine?

Hi,
I have a 1948 Mark IV. The engine looks a little different than another Mark IV that I am comparing it to.

It has split exhaust manifolds
And it has an X on the head

Does anyone know if there were different engines offered?
Was their a high performance version?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

A picture or two would help with this question.
There were three engines, a four cylinder and two six cylinder versions.

This is a 1-1/2 Litre 4 cylinder.

This is a 2-1/2 Litre 6 cylinder from 1938 but similar to '48.

This is a 3-1/2 Lire 6 cylinder from 1950 but similar to '48.

The 3-1/2 Litre at 125 HP would be the highest performance version of the three.
Without seeing the X on the head my guess would be that it may be some sort of extraneous mark.

Hi Alek,

The exhaust manifolds are in two separate parts on all MkIV six cylinder cars.

A photo might help.

Peter

The only high performance engines were Bronze heads on SS 100 [optional ]
It would also be interesting to see the pics of the other MK IVs being compared.
