Im a dunce - cant figure out how to add an image - please advise if you know?
Not your fault. New members experience a delay before they can post images. Just poke around a little bit it shouldn’t take long.
Then there will be an upload arrow at the top of your editing box

When you upload a photo, wait for it to upload, if it still says, uploading, don’t hit reply yet.
More details in absence of a pic - if useful - its aluminum, about 8mm dia. X 10mm long w an o ring in the top of the pin…bottom half has a half hole where it sheared off whatever was capturing it.
An easy way is to stick the image on your desktop and then drag it into your message as you are writing it. After you do that be sure to wait until the “system” finishes processing and uploading the picture.
I can’t think of any aluminum pins in that area on a series 1 4.2
There are some steel dowel pins in the oil pan ,timing chain cover and timing chain tensioner, nothing I can think of with an o-ring
What engine are you talking about
Thanks for the kind help everyone - its a 68 xke 4.2 six cylinder 2+2. Processing: B5D6C54F-E48A-4393-83FD-9BE282C15BC6.png…
Looks like the photo did not finish loading aas it says “Processing” … or maybe the system does not accept .png image files? Do you have a .jpg of the file, or do you have a graphics program where you can save the file as a .jpg?
Photo processing takes time. After you upload wait until it doesn’t say processing anymore.
I don`t think that pin and O ring belong in your engine.

Allen
Very glad to read that! Thanks.
My first thought was the O-ring may have been the pivot point on the oil pickup tube going to the oil line Have you checked the oil pressure gauge? I had an issue with my 62 model, as the pressure was bleeding away and back in the pan. In my case, it was just a badly installed O-ring. But this piece looks like it was sheared off. Nothing on the top side of the engine looks like that.
Oil pressure gage is functioning - pressure varies w rpm as expected. Thank you for that suggestion.
