MK10 / 420G front seat upholstery / disassembly

Has anyone ever done a DIY on seat disassembly? the things are incredibly complicated with multiple surfaces that need to be removed and dealt with… surely someone has photographed this process.
I’ve searched this forum extensively and have come up dry… can someone provide a link?

I have some photos from my S-Type, they are probably the same in basic construction as the MkX. Have a look at the album “Seats” in:

Thanks Andrew. Great photos!

Specifically what I’m trying to figure out is the order of operations in removing the tray table, the upper wood strip, and the lower metal cover.

Oh dear… Last time I did this on a set of 420g seats was back in about 1980.

From memory…

You fold out the picnic tray and undo the fasteners holding the hinge mechanism to the tray. Then you take the hinge mechanism off the casing and there are some screws under that which hold the casing onto the seat back.

I think the upper strip is on spring catches, but it is a while ago.

The lower metal cover is probably like the S, it has a couple of sheet metal screws which hold it to the frame.

But don’t take my word for it, it was a looooong time ago.
