I’m re-installing the interior in my MK2 after replacing the headliner and refinishing the wood. I have a small part that I can’t identify. It’s a small tapered, split collet, see photo.
Could someone identify this and where it lives? Thanks

I’ll hazard a guess:
It’s too small to be from the fan motor, and that is larger than a penny, far away from the headliner, and is anyway a finger collet arrangement.
But it might be the clamp from a read view mirror, which you would have removed to redo the headliner and wood.
That’s it! It fits on the mirror stem. Thank you much!
It’s a valve lock collet.
