Well after fitting a steering box I put new seals in , I find there is some play in the rocker shaft , no end float that’s adjusted up ok , when turning the lower column I can see sideways play , translates to about 1 inch play in the steering wheel .
I could feel no play when it was on the bench !
So looked at the box I took off (removed for oil leak) , cleaned all the oil off it , placed it on paper for a day , the oil was coming from the top cover gasket , so removed the top and made a new gasket , the old one was very thin !
I did notice a diffrence in the boxes , the rocker shaft tops are diffrent , and one box cover has a slot cut in to it , plus the end float adjustment nut is a much smaller size
Anyone know the history of the 2 boxes , why the diffrence ?
I normally take pictures but forgot this time , but did find pictures of the diffrence on the box top covers !
