Hello
I just bought the above and sure enough, just like the list says the car
has the following problems:
AC only works on full
Dodgy SLS
Doors that wont open Just yesterday the transmission wouldn
t go into reverse. The advice I
received was let the car warm up before trying to shift from Park to
Reverse. It has been somewhat cold in LA recently (cold in LA?) so I`ll
try this approach before I go into panic mode
Does anybody own a similar model in SE Los Angeles. I live in Norwalk,
Ca
Thanks a lot

Tim,
the car
has the following problems:
AC only works on full
Speed control transistors in blowers have failed because
the motors are dirty/rusty and are binding.
You can remove them, clean them up and rebuild them
for very little money, or replace them at $600.00 each.
Dodgy SLS
Nothing unusual about that!
Doors that won’t open
Nothing unusual about that on the 88 and 89 cars…
Can be very expensive to fix if you cant get creative
with fixing broken castings…
Just yesterday the transmission wouldn’t go into reverse. The advice I
received was let the car warm up before trying to shift from Park to
Reverse. It has been somewhat cold in LA recently (cold in LA?) so I`ll
try this approach before I go into panic mode
This is NOT common.
Check the fluid level and filter(in trans).
Could be a linkage problem, sticking valve, or a serious problem.
Some use may clear it up if its a sticking valve.
I would remove the pan, clean the filter and magnets
in the bottom of the pan, and replace the fluid.
The filter is just a screen, and you can wash it out,
dry it, and re install it.
The correct filter has a spout out the bottom.

I suspect there are a lot of similar cars in L.A.!
