[modern] Code 47

Help!

My “check Engine” light came on this morning when I started the car. The
Jag dealer said not to worry about and that I should reset by setting
iginition to position 2 and then pulling the fuse. I did that and then
repalced. I pushed the VCM button and read the folloing error codes:

FUEL 47
FAIL 47

The Haynes manual refers to an Idle control coil. What is this and how do I
replace/fix? Should I be immediately concerned??

Thanks all!

Fuel fail 47 is for an electrical failure of the idle speed
control valve…there are two coils…one increases the idle, the other
reduces the idle speed…the alarm is for an open circuit, so
break out the can of wd40!

Brett

Brett,

Where are the coils found? What do I do?

What year car?

Open hood.
Look for a thick hose(about an inch thick) that goes from the elbow
on the air intake to the iscv on the intake manifold…its mounted
next to the cruse control bellows. it has 4 orange wires with idle
tags on them…remove the connector from the iscv and spray
wd40 into the connector and the iscv, and reconnect.
Pull fuse to reset the alarm.
If the problem comes back, you may need a new iscv, but I have never
heard of one failing.

The iscv (Idle Speed Control Valve) has a hex head adjustment for the
base idle speed on top…4 orange wires…cant miss it.
