For a couple of weeks, I have been diagnosing
a leak that seems to come in from the fuel-filler
area.
To date, I have removed the four bolts and dropped
the assembly down a couple of centimetres and
scraped a load of old silicone off the mating surfaces.
(From a previous repair attempt, I assume)
I then squirted a 10 mm bead of silicone back on to the
surfaces and resecured the assembly and removed the
excess silicone. I am happy that the sealing is effective
at this point.
Has anyone out there, noticed water leaking through
the rubber joins in the filler area.
Anybody elses experiences?
Kind Regards
Gavin

Gavin,
I have been chasing leaks in my boot area on and off for the last
couple off months. I did identify the fuel filler area as a having a
leak. It was caused by the rubber gaiter/surround within the well
perishing behind the actual filler pipe, the split was hidden in all the
folds of rubber. But this leak only manifested itself if I poured a
couple of litres of water down there at once. Under normal circumstances
there is no leak - provided the drain is kept clear. I will get round to
changing the gaiter soon.
