[modern] Head gasket, etc

Ben,
I can tell you what I did to fix my problem until it’s warm enough to fix
myself next year - and that is - I put an oil stop leak additive in my motor,
and it worked wonders. It only lasts for about 1000 miles, so every 1000 miles,
i add another pint. Absolutely no big deal, and no leaks. But, you can’t
forget to add it or you’ll get drips again.
Add the additive, wait for about 200 miles or so (until the leak stops) and
then wash the under part of the motor to clean all that hardened oil outa there.
That’s what I did.

Temporary fix of course, but it's no big deal. If you've got the marbles

to change the gasket yourself, then search the archives for Peter Young, and
you’ll find all kinds of goodies.

Is there a particular brand that I should be using? Is it something that has to be
done at the same time as an oil change?

Thanks

Ben

The stuff I bought was red, and it was in a clear bottle so that i could tell
the color. I did it 2k miles after an oil change, and it worked fine. Sorry
Ben, but I’m not recalling the name. It was moderately priced - i can tell you
that. Not too high or too low.

Ben,
Brett has an excellent point. Don’t think that the stop leak will be a
wonder problem solver. It does work wonders, but you’ll probably not want to
use it for more than 10k miles. It’ll buy you the time you need to focus on
other things until you can focus on the job of fixing it, unless you hire it
out.
