[modern] HSMO/power brake assist 88 XJ6 3.6 - Add'l Info

John,

I was just reviewing Technical Service Bulletins at All Data
(www.alldatadiy.com) and ran across one regarding a recall for a high
pressure hydraulic hose. If you find your leak is in a high pressure hose,
the dealer may fix it free under this recall. BTW a subscription to the All
Data service is well worth the $25 for a year just to see all the TSBs that
have been issued on our cars.

Recall 90V023000: Power Brake Hydraulic Hose
HIGH PRESSURE FLUID SUPPLY HOSE COULD RUPTURE CAUSING LOSS OF FLUID OF THE
BRAKE POWER ASSIST SYSTEM.
LOSS OF FLUID COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF POWER ASSIST TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM, WHICH
MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT, AND THE EXPELLED FLUID
FROM THE HOSE FAILURE COULD CAUSE AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE.

It MAY be worth a call to Jaguar, whereever you are , and check to see if
this recall was done to your car.
I checked last year, mine is an '89, and it hadn’t been.
Dealer replaced the hose for free. There was also a mention of the two
pressure switches which would also, depending on VIN, be replaced.
Cheers,
John

Hi John & Don,
Just wanted to say thank you for this tip…after reading about this
particular recall I went to both the NHTSA website AND called Jaguar in
Jersey, and they had no record of my car being serviced for any recall
items.
I just made an appointment with my local dealer (if you can call 45 min
away local) and will get all 4 items done. There were recalls listed for
cruise control failure to disengage, lower spring pan fixings, the high
pressure fluid supply hose that you mentioned, and the accumulator switch.
If I hadn’t read ALL my email, I wouldn’t have seen this one! Thanks again,
and thanks to the list whereby I can find all this info!
