[modern] Patsy's Tires

Contrary to public opinion, I do not have Pirelli P6000 tires. The P6000 is
a “summer tire”. I have P6000 Sports Veloces, which are all-season tires.

Right now, I have 215/65 VR15. They are great, particularly for freeway
driving, and pretty good on winding roads. Before I got these, I had 225/60
VR15. This size provides a very sure-footed ride on mountain roads. I got
30,000 miles from the last set, and, since there was a 40,000 mile
guarantee, I got a credit for the unused 10,000 miles towards the purchase
of my new tires. This was in spite of the uneven wear (more wear on the
inside fronts in spite of many alignments, quite common in the XJ40). No
hassle at all – the tire dealer went by the treadwear indicator in the
middle.

I think tire preference is largely at matter of personal taste – what kind
of handling you prefer and what kind of driving you do. The Michelin MXV4s
that Dave had on his car were too “comfortable” for my taste, but I can
understand why a lot of people like them.

I live in Southern California and don’t have to deal with snow. We have no
summer rain but winters can be wet, and roads are very slippery at the
beginning of the rainy season because all the oil that soaks into the
pavement during the dry season floats up after the first rain. (There are
usually hundreds of accidents on the first rainy day.) I am very pleased
with the wet-weather performance of the Sports Veloces.

Patsy,

Glad to hear you have the Sports Veloce! My understanding is that they are
very much like their summer sibling in handling, etc. They go onto my short
list for consideration.
