[modern] Power Door Lock Doesn't Work

Hi All,

It’s really very interesting and impressive to read the string of
conversations addressing the need for speed… which makes me shrink a
little shorter when all that I am dealing with is just a case of the right
rear power door lock that doesn’t move up or down with the push of the
switches. The power lock and unlock have stopped working. Additionally, I
feel a strong resistance when I manually pull or push the lock.

Can anyone please share with me their thoughts and experiences related to
this problem?

Thank you very much in advance!

Sounds like a bad solenoid or one that is bound up
Here is a crude description of how to get the door panel off there are better
ones in the archive and I suggest you go there. Its been a while since I
changed my door locks so I do know from experience what it takes.

Look at the black area behind he chrome door handle, there is a small hole,
insert small pc of metal and the small 3/4 x 1/2 approx. cover will pop off,
there is a screw inside, take it out.

Feel under the bottom of the arm rest, you will find a flat head screw slot in
a plastic retainer rotate 90 degrees and pry out.

Lift up and pull forward on the top part of the armrest. This will reveal
screws that you will need to remove.

The wood panel lifts up and pull to front of car it will slide off. Remove the
screws that hold the black plastic in the top of the door Then remove the screw

The top part of the door is a black plastic piece with a gasket for the window
it comes off when you remove the screws that were under the wood panel.

Remove all the screws you can see, (they say there is a need to remove the
screw inside the red warning light on panel but I never found the need

Remove all the screws you see that hold the door panel and gently pry panel
away from door. Watch the bottom edge it may have metal retained that can bend
on bend or break but most are really nice press in plastic retainers.

This gets you at the mechanism. Operate to see what is binding. Some parts
can be lubricated with a light oil like 3-1 or spray with WD 40 to clean and
loosen up any plungers that at jammed. It that doesn’t work disonnect the
plugs that hold the wiring, (use a conductive lube when you reinstall. Tip,
the solenoid has a screw you can only reach from inside the door don’t waste
time trying to remove it with trick bent screw drivers, Just remove the torx
bolts hat hold the door latch in place and you will be able to turn the
solenoid enough to put a regular screw driver.

Not knowing what you will find I can go no further

I had same problem on my 92 VDP back door lock. I
sprayed a little WD-40 on the problem lock & it
started working correctly. It is still working
correctly after a month.
Just a suggestion.
