I would suspect the OBD2 system to be non graphics based though…
I think they are up to OBD4 now…
AFAIK, OBD2 is still current, with OBD3 due out "soon". The
protocol,
as I understand it, is considerably different than “normal” computer
communications protocols like RS-232 and such, requiring some
moderately-specialized hardware to convert the protocols. There are
some kits out there that will interface the OBD-II port to your
computer, including the hardware and software for $122-$lots. Here are
some URLs:
Some manufacturers have their own protocols in addition to the
OBD-II
specs; don’t know if Jaguar is one of those, or if software is available
that will do the proprietary format as well.
I also understand that there are generic stand-alone OBD-II scan
tools
available starting around $250–I haven’t looked much into this side of
the market, though.–

Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good
with ketchup.
Dan , thanks for the info.
I knew that someone out there could point me in the right direction.
I think I’ll start with the local Ford dealership since they are our
cousins.
I’ll tell them I have a check engine light and see if they say they can read
the codes or send me away. The next stop for info will be the local
independent that specializes in electrical work.
As far as writing my own software ,that won’t happen.
I am looking to buy something off the shelf, ready to plug and play.
If anyone else has ideas on getting this accomplished
please give us a holler. TIA
