[modern] Trans fail light

Recently I had a transmission warning light go on and the transmission
started shifting very poorly. I stopped and shut off the engine and
then started it up and everything was fine. No warning light. Since
then the light has come on three more times accompanied with terrible or

no shifting in the transmission. Each time after I shut it off it is
ok, but I am concerned about the increasing frequency and what is
really the cause of it. Any body have any suggestions?

First place to look is the row of relays on the firewall. if they are
blue, best to replace them with sealed relays. Any resistance in thes
relays can cause many spurious fail warnings and even no start
conditions. Other than that, you need to see if there is a code in
memory that will tell you what area to check.
