[modern] Which trans do I have?

I recently bought a 1994 XJ40. Does anyone know what kind of transmission
it has. Also, the cup-holder needs repair/replacement, any ideas on an
inexpensive fix?

Hey there,

Depends on which engine you have. To my knowledge, a V12 will have a GM
transmission, and a 6 cylinder will have a ZF transmission.

A cupholder? It probably has “Motorcraft” stamped on it.

Real Jags don’t have cupholders!

Let’s kick these pretenders off this list.

Dave,

The best thing to do is go into a dealer and purchase the cupholder upgrade
kit. It’s fairly easy to install and it cures the problems of the old one.

TRANSMISSION: I don’t know what transmission I have either…other than it’s
controlled electonically. If you have problems with it (like it going into
limp-home mode), you might want to change the relay.

TYRES: As to tyres, I bought Z rated Dunlops from Sears about a year and a
half ago. I will NEVER buy them again. They’re already worn out.

BRAKES: I changed out my front brake pads last weekend. My brake caliper did
not resemble the pictures in the Chilton manual at all. They were actually
easier to change. It took longer to dismount and remount the tyres than it
did changing the pads.

If there is anyone looking for a Jag in the Seattle area, I just saw one
exactly like mine for sale at the NextCar lot in Monroe. Price looked Okay.

Cheers.

Stephen

Are you sure that the colour is British Racing Green (code HDJ) and not
Brooklands Geen (code HFB).
I believe that all '94s are Brooklands Green - a slightly darker green.

Nope, the cupholder is not a Ford part. Many of us have broken ones to
prove it.
