The lead for the HLB isn’t live - similar to your XJ40. You’ll need to
a relay into the right hand vacant socket (the red one) in the boot fusebox
on your X300. It’s a blue Hella relay identical to the two you’ll already

I am poised to undertake the same procedure. I had heard that the wire
voltage to it, without the need to do anything else. Oh well.
When I fitted one to my '88 XJ40, I traced the wires back to the boot and
had to insert a relay into a vacant socket.
In the large fuse compartment at the rear (on the '97), there are many
vacant relay sockets. Maybe have a word with the dealer?
