What’s wrong with it? Moss boxes aren’t that hard, and the manuals are good. If you can do an engine you can do a gearbox.

Finding Moss parts is a bit difficult, I understand.

Gearspec here make new 1 st gears with a slightly higher ratio, But won’t sell parts, you have to get them to do the box.

Thank you for your reply! Jag had a fire 30 plus years ago. Stored indoors since. Unknown miles(no dash). Third owner since fire. Doing a ground up. I don’t know if it has problems. Afraid to put it back in untouched. Please point me in a direction for the manual.
Thank you again

Thank you for your input!!

The XK120 Mark VII Service Manual covers most of what you need to know to take a Moss box apart and put it together again. You definitely need this manual and a 150 parts catalogue.

Jaguar did not issue a manual for the 150, they just issued supplements to the 120 manual.
Prefix JLS indicates the Laycock DeNormanville overdrive. Triumph and Volvo also used this overdrive and manuals and parts can be obtained through vendors serving those cars.
Suffix JS indicates shaved gears, i.e. not the standard ratios.

Thanks Rob you have been a huge help!!

I’ll second the recommendation for Walt in Idaho. My box had a blown needle bearing which had chewed up the end of the mainshaft and wasn’t discovered until I disassembled the box. I shipped the box to him from Virginia for $100 using Fedex Ground. He machined the “synchro” rings on the gears and completely overhauled the box for a flat rate. I would use him again in a second.
