Need help with Mark II chassis number

I am looking at a Mark II in Europe that has chassis number P221686DN - the ad says it is a 1967 but it’s unclear from the Jaguar Heritage info that the number corresponds to model year 1967. Can anyone shed light on this?

Nigel Thorley’s book says the very last LHD 3.8 Mark II was 224758 which left the factory on 29 Aug 1967.
The first was 210001 which was later converted to RHD in Feb '60 and there were thus 14757 LHDs total.
Anders Clausager’s book says there were 235 3.8 Mark IIs in 1967 but does not break it out for LHD and RHD.
So 224758 - 221686 = 3072 cars, so not likely to be a '67.
Look at other cars on saloondata.com and you might get an idea of the approximate date.

My chassis number is P224482 and it was made in 1966 so I think the seller has the wrong date. Mine is a right hand drive that was purchased in England for USA specifications.

Thanks for your help - it didn’t look right to me either. I am a long term XJ6 enthusiast but I can no longer resist a Mark II.

That’s quite natural - we had our Xj6 first. Paul

Development changes during production are listed in several Mk2 books with referral to chassis numbers. In January 1962 was 219801 in production and in March 1963 222241. So by linear interpolation we get Dec 1962-Jan 1963 for the 221686.

210001BW is my car believe it or not!

If you are Andrew, how about putting some pictures of it on saloondata.
We’d love to see it.

Hi, I’ve uploaded some pictures onto Saloondata ,they are just awaiting approval from the site.

I had forgotten that I had uploaded it onto there when I first bought it in 2011.
