No lights in dash

pulled dash, to replace light bulbs–turn signals–found a few more blown bulbs…replaced all light bulbs 17 little and 5 other… plugs are bright as with the dash contacts…put back together–no tac–no lights–turn signal indicator lights…according to wiring diagram #4 fuse for dash is hot. on the dash plug there is a #4 is this the same as the #4 fuse??? if so , no power to the #4 on the plug with the ignition on…did install an auxiliary ground wire to the bus bar.

A multimeter is your friend.
Start from the source and move downstream until you find the fault.
It’s a fairly simple circuit, battery - fuse - ignition switch - light switch - dim rheostat - instrument cluster

Michael,

What year is your XJ-S/XJS?

Paul

it is really weird. everything was working with the exception of a few light bulbs. been testing, looks like more digging. all fuses test good, so its up stream or down stream. thanks for the reply

85 xjs–better wiring diagram in the Haynes manuel than shop man. got 3x glasses so i can see better–other problem copper contact tabs on the printed circuit are loose…glueing then back in place with ultra copper waiting to cure. will trace green wire tomorrow…thanks for replying

would like to make sure on auxiliary ground. is that metal piece behind the 17 light bulbs ground?? haynes has a better wiring diagram but is not clear where a ground is. have tabs re glued. found hot–s soon as i get a confirmation on the ground—on his pressure stand by. thanks for your help, Paul—michael 85 xjs
