I wish. You’re where I was a few years ago with mine. I think I remember this same question being posed here not so long ago and the consensus was there were so few cars made for the current market and that cataloging all fasteners would be too daunting though, if pulled off, could possibly be a profitable sideline for somebody. I don’t know. All it would take would be for one vendor to place an order, copy that , and then undercut the price by sourcing same from Asia. Still, having owned pre-war Indian motorcycles, I remember an outfit on the east coast offering year-specific full nut and bolt kits for same with the same plating, high bolt head profiles and 24tpi pitch as originals. Not quite the same, I know, but, food for thought. Myself, I’d rather have seen a full tap and die set for these cars even if it’s Asian-sourced to keep the cost down when I first bought mine.
If you are not a stickler for Bees bolts and such, anything that is not peculiarly British, McMaster-Carr carries a mind boggling array of threaded fasteners. Shipping is reasonable and generally arrives on the next day in much of the US.
These are all great replies, but the poster is stating that he’s looking for complete, sub-assembly sets – as opposed to individual bits. At least that’s my take on this read. Now I’m curious to know if owners of MGA’s, A-H’s and Triumph’s are offered anything like that and now that the poster has an XK120, he’s wondering if the usuals offer the same?
Correct. From The Frame Up, FTFU has sub-sets available for the MGTC, and Moss (bless their hearts) locates the fasteners for parts right on the same page as the part you’re looking at - and shown in the blow-up. Sooo… even if you don’t need the part, you can order the fastener(s) - the bolts to install the heater valve to the engine, or the radiator to the bulkhead, for example. From FTFU:
No, I guess we don’t have that luxury, or no vendor has seen a market for it.
We have the hardware section of the parts catalogues.
And we can translate part numbers into fastener descriptions. http://www.jag-lovers.org/xk-lovers/library/fastener.htm
For example, FS.104/5D set screw securing hinges to doors is a 1/4" BSF x 5/8" long D strength range standard hex head screw.
I’m sure Bill Bassett would be happy to assemble appropriate bolt kits for you. Beyond him, I would say that there are very few vendors who could be trusted to know what was actually correct.
For what it is worth, I have ordered several fasteners kits and been uniformly disappointed with them. The shortcomings included the wrong lengths, the wrong grade, yellow zinc coating I did not want, and missing pieces. In each case, it was a waste of money. It is better to spend the time, and source just what you want.
