Something wrong with the posting, Got a couple of numbers transposed but the edit function won’t work

10 is the rear inner fulcrum bearing
11 is the handbrake caliper bolt
12 is the shock bush

  1. a complete, though worn out, bearing, but what is its purpose?
  2. no.
  3. not what it’s called but I’m sure you recognise it

I fixed the numbering for you … all direct hits (specifically the horizontal adjustment bonnet shim).

Hey, the numbering got screwed up on my post, too. Another little bug, Andrew. numbers should read:

2
5
7
10
11
12

I have a whole bunch of those parts I could send you to add to your collection. Would help clean out my parts drawers!!!
Len

Just what I need Len! More junk to pile onto the junk I can’t bring myself to turf.

Status:

Edit: in fairness, those who’ve only torn apart a 3.8 car won’t get Number 1.

#1 Brake master to servo boost?

It’s clear you recognise the part and its geography, Craig.

#6 is the lock plate for one of the screws holding gearbox and clutch housing together

John North

#3 is the lock washer that holds the big nut at the end of the GB mainshaft

John North

Yes and yes.

… makes one realize how complicated an automobile is.

quiz over. This is the identity of #1

but what’s #8?

I’ve been scratching my head … maybe a part from my XK120 junk box fell into my E-type junk box?

Yeah, looks like it.

Basically the same function as no. 9 then?

I think the bonnet shim is homemade. Number 5 maybe a rear camber shim. Number 3 under the front crank bolt? Seven and 10 - agree for the rear fulcrums, 4 and 11 hand brake.

Another interesting visit to JL today. I learned about 1, 3, 8 and “Cloaca” (which I thought was part of a piece of fried chicken).

Yup.

Could be homemade - came with the car though. Number 3 locks the big nut on the gearbox mainshaft or constant pinion shaft.

No. Those parts only go into chicken dogs. Yummy.
