Oil filter with atf going thru it

On my 94 xj12 there’s an oil filter that looks like an engine oil filter but it has atf going Thru it I was wondering if it’s power steering or transmission. It’s on the passenger side and the filter is pointing downwards it’s mounted to a small oil filter housing

I am not familiar with your XJ81 model and our earlier V12 equipped 1990 XJ-S convertible 1990 V12 Vanden Plas have nothing like that. So I have no clue what that is. Perhaps if you posted a picture of that filter on Jag-Lovers, someone might recognize it.

Over the years, on various cars, I’ve seen add-on filters for transmission and power steering. I suspect that’s what you’re seeing: an added-on filter. A picture would help, yes, as these installations typically have a non-original appearance.
