Does some one has a picture were I can find the plug for oillevel check of the airco compressor in my E-type. It’s a TECUMSEH model HG-500.

.

Thanks,

I don’t think you can check the oil level, not without discharging the refrigerant. On almost all automotive A/C compressors, the oil and refrigerant mix so there is no way to open the sump of the compressor without releasing the refrigerant.

The labels I’ve seen on the HG-500s (as yours does) say you can only check the oil level when servicing - which means to me when the unit is discharged so the plugs can be opened.

If the refrigerant is already gone I think you just remove the unit and drain the oil, measuring what comes out. The fill capacity is 11 oz., but probably some of the oil will be in the dryer and the lines so it can be a bit less on a healthy unit.

You can’t check the level unless you discharge, but the procedure has to be done in a specific way, to ensure that most of the oil has returned to the compressor. Here’s the documentation.
