I need to replace the oil pan gasket on my 2003 X-Type. I unnderstand that there is a way to make the job a lot easier by drilling a hole in the X-Fer case bracket. Anybody got any instructions or know of a video?
You can see the bolt above the part of the transfer case that blocks access.
Remove the horizontal bolt holding the case to the gearbox (don’t drill THROUGH the bolt) and drill a large hole with a hole saw straight up.
3/4" or 19mm should be large enough to get a 13mm socket through the case and remove the pan bolt.
The hole should not weaken the case mount webbing much.
