Old magazine photos 1980's

I picked up some old UK Jaguar driver magazines today . There are some great pictures in there and I expect most of the cars are still around .
I have noted the registration numbers as best I can . If your car is here let me know and I will try to copy the picture for you.

As a member of the JDC from April 1976 to June 2009 I have a virtually complete collection of ā€œJaguar Driverā€ magazine from those dates in the ā€˜archivesā€™ (if memory serves it may be missing one issue). Among these copies there are several photos of my own XK from different points in itā€™s history.

As Mike Eck observed with respect to his move, one sometimes wonders what to do with this accumulated stuff!

Might as well askā€¦
If you see any mention of 1938 SS saloon chassis 40051 registered KMG 273, which may have departed the UK around 1977 or 78 having been sold by the dealer HJ Sibley in Bude Cornwall, I would love to hear about it.

Worth a try , but I canā€™t see that number.
I have found a reprint of an " Autocar" article from 1936. Is this relevant to you ? If so PM me your address and I will send it you .
Jim

ā€œJaguar Driverā€
I have a full set from when it first started as gestetner copies in the mid 1950ā€™s through to the A5 size copies started very late 1950ā€™s and all the early 1960ā€™s copies where the adverts were a loose insert, right through to going A4 and up until a couple of years ago.
I have rejoined the club last year.
I also have all the Jaguar Enthusiasts magazines from start to a couple of years ago
and also all the 3rd short lived UK Jaguar club magazines
Autocar and Motor both UK weeklyā€™s I have virtually complete sets from 1930 through to 1970
Autosport I have a complete rub from 1950 through to the 1980ā€™s
Covers most of my interests!

Autocar Road Test #1019? I have it in the Brooklands 1931-1951 Portfolio collection.
Thanks for the offer anyway.
One can always hope oneā€™s car might have been mentioned in an old club magazine. Even a For Sale ad would be interesting. There are gaps in its ownership history.

Rob:

A few hours perusing back issues of ā€œJaguar Driverā€ magazine from April, 1976 through the end of 1978, unfortunately failed to produce anything on KMG 273 in either articles or want ads.

Chris.

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed your trip down memory lane.
Funny how magazines used to be the way we communicated our Jag restoration questions, and how far weā€™ve come with the current web site.

Rob,

Is it your car that shows up on a ā€œGoogleā€
search for KMG273?

Regards

John

Yes. I got it from Beverly Hills and have the US ownership history going back to about 1977, the date Harry Sibley got it is smudged and might be 1977 or 1972, a Peterborough UK owner paid regular taxes on it from 1955-66, and the original purchaserā€™s name in 1938 is probably a business name which I could not trace without an address. So I can always hope to fill in the gaps someday.

Not much chance of that with my 120, it was repossessed once on a mechanicā€™s lein for non-payment of bills and auctioned off by the sheriff so the paper trail ends there.

Thatā€™s awesome.
One of my regrets in life is throwing out my steamer chest full of all the British Car and Jaguar magazines i poured through growing up, believing i was no longer interested and moving on from it all.

God it makes me cringe just the thought now.

Paul:

Like you I had a large collection of old magazines, Car & Driver, Road & Track, Motor Racing, Sports Cars Illustrated, Autosport and so on. In the interest of space saving while retaining images I carefully clipped interesting pictures, articles and built up what I believe from my brief sojourn in an advertising agency many years ago was called a ā€˜morgueā€™. They are now housed in an old plastic milk crate in large envelopes tagged A-Z (Allard to Zil) in my den. They have proven invaluable over the years in my capacity as an artist in providing details of various subjects painted.

The back issues of ā€œJaguar Driverā€ provide, as Rob suggested above, a pleasant trip down memory lane during these cold, winter days when the car is confined to the garage.

Chris.
