On going rebuild

I can’t stop salivating :open_mouth:

The eagle eyed might have noticed that its not spec’d as a flat floor, however, the LH side will be to accommodate a side exit exhaust should it have one at some stage.

The steering rack now has the big bush fitted, using a mandril and press to save distortion/damage and then using an adjustable reamer to provide best fit.

The rack has been given a couple of coats of enamel and a clean up and is now ready to start full rebuild.

Impressive! I think you can remove the “re” from your title. This qualifies as a BUILD.

I get very envious of people who go right back to basics when doing their restoration, examples being, sourcing an old washing machine from the dump and turning the drum into a blast cabinet (or similar) doing all their own plating at home, spending countless hours flattening and sanding to spray almost panel by panel. I dont have the patience for that type of build but admire those that do.

All I can say is yummy!!! Very impressive build, I will definitely be keeping an eye on it for inspiration. Gorgeous work.

Below are some pictures of the ongoing shell build, note possibly not in sequence. These show the under the skin box sections and similar.

Note box near the original wiper motor location, this being for the mechanical injection manifold.

Amazing build. Please keep the pictures coming.

This is serious etype pornography! is this Rod Jays work?

Pat, what year and model is this car?

I guess I should have qualified my request. I assume that seeing as this is a “rebuild” that the main tub etc is from one of the std models. If that is the case I’d like to send a couple of pics to the guy that’s repairing my car to give him a heads up on what is underneath the damaged skins of the car.

If your car is a complete build that isn’t using an existing tub or the open rockers etc are not std then the information will be of no use to me, or him.

Thanks.

Looks like much stronger brace behind sills and the a-post section. And unlike factory, interior floor cross frame is one long piece with tunnel added afterwards; much stronger than factory.

Hi
To answer posed question, the build is being done by Rod, the original car is a 67 S1 4.2 none of which is present in the photos. The car is a replica of the Linder Nocker Low Drag, which was originally based on a LWE.

There are additional stiffners located throughout the car, some are steel and riveted in.

I have fitted previously the floor crossmember to an earlier restoration and it was a one piece item

Pat

Beautiful ! While apart, why not install a collapsible section to your driveshaft, and re-balance. Changing any drive-line components at a race meet, for example, will be much quicker. Just collapse the driveshaft, and its out of your way !

John

Or just use an inflatable driveshaft - just let the air out and it’s out of your way !

Funny!!! No offense to the wags, but funniest post of the year! (Nick,
there’s still 5 months to top it)

Cheers, Alan

This forum , I always thought, was to help others, and learn a few things as E-Type owners. What do you bring to the table with comments like that? Do you have a clue as to what the subject matter is, what it entails, how it can help , especially in a purpose built race car. No. So why not let the hot air out of your empty head, and keep your comments to yourself unless you have something positive to offer.

You appear to only have a pair of bongos on which you constantly drum: One is that a collapsible driveshaft is a universal cure for every e-type, the other is harping on about what you think JL is about.

With all due respect, if you would provide some proof that your collapsible driveshaft is the universal panacea which you keep claiming it to be then you might not meet with quite so much disbelief.

And lay off the personal insults, I’ve already suspended you once for that. Please, let’s not go down that road again.

A pair of bongos on which I constantly drum ??? Lay off the personal insults ? I will never again try to assist anyone on this forum. Shame on you. Want proof that it works ? Try using your brain and give the subject some real thought. Good bye Jaguar forum.

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

I do use my brain. Amongst other times, I use it whenever I post a detailed response to a user question here. I take the time to try and explain it as clearly and completely and I often provide pictures to help make it easier to understand. If you’ve read any of my posts, you’ll see that this is generally the case.

I don’t need to mention how much I help other listers, on the one hand my ego is larger than that, on the other, most people are appreciative of a detailed explanation, even if it does sometimes come across as a bit pedantic.

I have no intention of modifying an E-Type, or any other vehicle, without anything other to go on than telling the owner “There is one guy on the internet who claims it’s simple, fast, and easy, and that it works on every e-type. In fact, he’s so sure of it that it is more or less the only thing he writes, other than to call “Shame” whenever someone doesn’t say “Yeah, amen” to his posts.”.

Leave if you wish, or stay. I’m not bothered. But please, if you stay, then either back your claims up with detail, or stop stamping your feet and crying “Shame”. It really is tedious.
