Highly unlikely: if the engine turns, there’s no way it could’ve gotten that hot to melt aluminum!

Thanks for the reply. What do you think caused it? Yes it does turn freely. I bought it a while ago and its supposed to be rebuilt but I never noticed that area.
Just casting flaws to my eye. Nothing

There’s no way for that area of the head, the timing chain case, to get that hot. There’s no adjacent water jacket or exhaust port.
