Is this the piece that a plastic plug pushes into to hold the carpet down?? If so and you plan on using modern insulation deadening mats, thicker “jute” and good carpet, the plugs will not fit through all of the material to secure a good purchase into this receptacle. I used a sound mat that made the floor board even with the top level of these pieces and they will never be missed.

Yes it is the metal piece that the plastic piece pushes into.
You make a good point about the carpet thickness, I was/am going to cut the padding away and just secure the carpet, or at least that is the plan :).
