Perhaps a silly question but interesting

Mine will do it in Park at an idle but in Drive it just cuts out at 1500😂

Slightly related, the 3.6 Auto has a different ECU to the 3.6 manual to reduce the rev limit. This is to prevent the HP auto box eating itself, and also explains why the manual is faster.

Way back when I used a TCI converter in my XJS as well. At the time, at least, TCI had a guy who was familiar with the Jag/400 set-up and understood what I was after so I had them build one to that spec. Not cheap; about $500 18-20 years ago.

More recently I had the 400 rebuilt on my present day V12 Jag. The trans guy said the converter was in fine shape and didn’t need replacing. I was willing to spend the money but, on the other hand, glad I didn’t have to. Still, though, I have a slightly uneasy feeling about not replacing it and that’s why I don’t rev this engine as high.

Ability to tolerate high RPM is something those who have converted to the 4L60 should be mindful of. I have no direct experience but according to specialists I trust the 4L60 simply won’t tolerate 6500 RPM in standard, off-the-shelf form. But…it can easily be upgraded to do so, for a price. It’s probably academic for the vast majority of V12 owners, though. I doubt that many of us rev the engine that high.

Cheers
