Can anyone who has a pre-facelift (99-02) car with the phone option fitted tell me if the phone button panel below the radio should be illuminated when the rest of the dash is? Mine isn’t and I don’t know if it should be.

Hi Eric,
I don’t have the phone option, but the radio module is easy enough to remove if you want to look for lights.
There are 3 trim cover pieces covering the bolts.
On the left and right are 2 covers that look like half a raindrop. On the bottom the piece that looks like a Cheshire cat smile. Don’t lever them out crooked, pull them out straight if you can with 2 knife blades at once.
Remove 4 bolts with 8mm socket.
Cover the PRNDL with cardboard or cloth to protect it.
Turn key to ACC, move shifter into L.
Pull out the CCM and radio unit enough to undo the connectors. You have to squeeze a little tab, then they pull out.
