Photos of Original SU H8 Carbs

H8 carbs did you know that by 6th February 1956 that in excess of 500 XK140’s had H8 carbs fitted!
see attached note in SCCA newsletter 31st March 1956 with advice received from Jaguar cars
This equates to about 1 in every 9 cars.

I also have a interdepartmental note dated 29 feb 1952 Baily to Whittaker to order 50 sets of 2 inch horizontal SU carbs part number C7094 delivery being extremely urgent.
ie in readiness for lemans 1952 and the C type project

That is certainly interesting, but I have my doubts. If 1 in 9 XK140s had H8s delivered from the factory, it would seem like there would be many more original examples today. It could be a bit of wishful thinking by the factory to support customers who ordered these cars with H8s expecting they could race them. Until Burlen started making replicas, it was very rare to see a pair.

Bob I totally agree with your comments and I typed it with a large tongue in cheek.
The person at jaguar has probably put an extra zero on the end and was probably the same person who advised the SCCA that jaguar had built 50 XKSS’s !!!

Alternative facts perhaps? Something are familiar with in the States.
