I am going to go with the theory that it had something to do with coolant contact with the intake valves over a period of time. I did use distilled water with the concentrate Prestone " for all makes and all years " now replaced with blue coolant for "Jaguars prior to 2000 " that their website advises for 1967 Jaguar E-types.
