Polishing head intakes

I am rebuilding the engine of my 2004 XJR after a connecting rod bearing slipped at about 200k miles and damaged the crank journal, which is being repaired. I have polished and done minor reshaping of the supercharger, and am wondering if it is worth tackling the head intake ports. I read somewhere that this work is not always recommended, as the rough intakes on some engines aids in creating swirling of the incoming air and fuel for better combustion.
