Potential SS100 purchase. Seeking advice

Hi all. Just joined and this is my 1st post. Any help would be grateful on the following.
I’ve stumbled accross that above and wondered what sort of price I should be expecting to pay for this in need of total resto
Thanks Karl

Sorry I just realised for some reason part of the text didn’t appear.
it is a 1929 SS 100 in need of total resto
thanks

You should get the chassis number and post your request on the “Pre-XK” list. That will help you determine what you have found, since the first SS100 was made in 1935.

If the advertised year is 1929 that is suspicious.

A genuine SS100 will have a chassis number in these ranges:
18001 to 18126 for 1935-1937 2.5 litre
39001 to 39118 for 1938-1939 3.5 litre
49001 to 49065 for 1938-1940 2.5 litre
A genuine unrestored SS100 might typically be advertised for $100,000 to $500,000.

Be aware there have been many amateur reproductions of varying quality and accuracy made from pre and post war saloons.
There are also replicas such as Sussex made of entirely new parts and XJ6 engines.
There are also fiberglass bodies mounted on VW chassis and often advertised as an SS100.

I recently saw an unrestored 3 1/2 litre SS100 advertised for GBP 650,000 on ebay

Couldn’t happen ,but only a few years ago a $1 million SS wasn’t possible either… and I’ve seen thee.
allow say $200,000 for acheque book restoration , Or less but a lot of work if doing it yourself. And any pane work is in aluminum.
