[pre-xk] Mark V DHC Top (Hood) Chrome Trim and Window

Pekka, I would love to see more photos, whatever you have.

Terry McGrath sent me some old photos of Mark Vs with the very narrow oval
window, which I believe is probably the BD.1369, and Terry Crossley sent me
some photos of a car with the rectangular window which appears to be the
original. I have seen this one on 12 cars, so I believe this may be BD.4094,
and I have seen it only on Mark IV and V, not 120.

I noticed in the Mark IV book that if someone wanted to order a new top,
there is no part number, just N.D. whatever that means, and they would
apparently get some yards of fabric. Does this mean the top would not come
sewed, that the local shop would be expected to sew it themselves? In which
case they would use the old backlight or get a new one, which might be
whatever the dealer had in stock.
In the Mark V book there is a part number for the hood, and it does not say
whether the backlight is included or not.
In the 120 book the backlight is included, and the hood was not offered
without backlight. There is no indication of which backlight that would be.

If I understand correctly, the backlight would have been installed in the
hood after it was attached to the car?
This would not be true of 120 OTS, it would have been sewed complete
elsewhere in the trim shop.

I am coming around to a tentative conclusion that there will be no
definitive single answer, but rather that Jaguar may have used more than one
window in the course of the Mark V production run, but failed to denote this
in the parts catalogue. After all, the parts catalogue was intended for
ordering parts, not for defining authentic originality. They may have used
leftover Mark IV narrow windows at the beginning of the run, then switched
to the rectangular window, then later the wider oval. So the wide oval
window for 120 OTS may be correct for cars towards the end of the run. Still
tentative at this point, and the investigation will continue.

I would still like to get measurements of any and all back window frames
that anyone may have, and the number of screws.

I did not at all expect this to be such an obscure detail to track down when
I began this investigation.
Rob

Could someone also verify the dimensions of a genuine MKIV
DHC backlight, and the amount of mounting screws? (BD.1369)> Here are all the backlights of the era listed in the parts
catalogues.
BD.1369 is for Mark IV … (narrow oval?)
BD.4094 is for Mark V … (rectangle?)
BD.1369 is for XK120 OTS alloy … (same as Mark IV, perhaps just using
up leftover Mark IV parts?)
BD.4405 is for XK120 OTS steel & XK140 OTS … (wide oval?)
BD.6760 is for XK120 DHC … (this is a kidney shaped oval, and I believe
we can rule it out for Mark V)
