[pre-xk] Mk IV 1.5L oil filter

G’day All,

Would appreciate part No or whatever to enable me to purchase an
insert for 1.5L oil filter

If it is common with any other applications, that info would be good

Thanks

Hi Phil,

This guy makes oil filters for the 1 litre Jaguar. He has both the
corrugated felt type and the paper element type.

It looks like there might also be a source from Mercedes!

If as I suspect 1/2 litre filter elements are the same as the 6
cylinder cars, you should try a local { Aust] Ryco filter RP 205
from memory.

. They were making them specifically for MK IV/ Vs with the large
square section seal included in the kit

Although the element also fits other later Jaguars, they don’t use
the larger seal.

The later smaller seals are not much use for Mk IVs.

You may still find them around in Aust but are no longer made
after Ryco moved its manufacturing to Sth Africa.

Other wise if you’re in Melbourne you could drop over and pick
one up here, or Rob Reilly had a place in US that sold square
section seals of the right size.–

Hi Ed,

The normal filter on the 1 is only 4" long. Not the same as the sixes.

OK . It’s still a good idea to have the proper seal on it

The ones now supplied are small for use on XK engines.

Can a 6 cylinder canister be used on a 1 1/2 .–

The source I have used for sealing rings is McMaster-Carr
www.mcmaster.com click ‘‘sealing’’ then ‘‘o-rings’’ then scroll
down to choose square cross section and you get their list
of sizes, a package of 10 or 25 will last you awhile, or you
can buy cord stock and make your size with cyanoacrylate
super glue.

I still have my notes from when I was searching filters for
the XK120 and Mark V. Assuming the 1.5 filter is similar to
the Mark V and fits in a canister with a centering
arrangement inside. Let me know the ID of the canister,
minimum ID the filter or OD of the centering part, and min
and max overall length. Some of the filter makers like
Hastings have size search engines.

You want the filter to be a little bit smaller than the ID
of the canister so oil will flow around it and through.–

G’day All,

Thanks for all the advice

I have found that a RYCO R243P is the filter to use.

I looked at the Mercedes items and they did not seem to be correct

The RYCO item has the wide rubber seal, top & bottom

Again Thx
