Yes, my bad. Should have remembered to say that before working on the electrics you MUST disconnect the battery - preferably both terminals to be extra safe. But ALWAYS disconnect the side of the battery that has the big thick wire that goes to the body of the car, not the big thick wire that goes to the solenoid, first and re-connect it last…
Doesn’t matter whether your car is positive or negative earth, it’s the wire that goes to the body first and last.
Thank you to all concerned— replaced the solenoid (without having to buy more tools) and bingo… we’re back in action.
