[racing] adjustable rear sway bar XJS Racer

I forgot to ask this in my last post.

Can the rear sway bar be adjusted, other than by thickness?

Thanks,

Rear sway bars can be adjusted both by diameter and by the
leverage point on the bar.–

Are there any hollow bars available for the XJS? Or bars that can
be adjusted after installation by moving the bar on its mounts?–

Larry,
Yes, hollow bars exist but at the small size needed for the
rear end the weight savings is pretty trivial… I assume you
are looking to use a clamp arrangement on the hollow bar?
Go to facebook and check out Robert Knodt’s build pictures
on his XJ-S track day car…

I like his rear sway bar set up.–

For race cars I always use a sliding block arrangement because most
race drivers are more atuned to the vehicle. For road cars I make
the bars with a series of holes that give you achoice of 5 or 6
postions but ensure that the bar is always balanced Left to right.–

So you call them sliding block assembly’s? We call them
clamps… same animal…
The only time I use holes as locators is when I use solid
bars. I suppose I could use a shoulder bolt on hollow bars
but I’ve seen more than a few hollow bars collapse enough to
loosen the bolt with the resulting issues…
When you make your own sway bars do you reheat treat the
4130 steel after bending it? I have a heavy duty truck
spring shop near me and always heat treat them after bending
them into shape…
Most of the racers who bend up their own sway bars look at
me like I’m crazy telling me I’m wasting my money…–
