[racing] FIA Appendix K Race Prep - Help Needed

Hello -

My first post to the forum. I have recently purchased a '62
FHC (RHD) that was under restoration as a street rod of
sorts for several years until the owner was unable to continue.

As you may know, vintage racing in the states is not
typically in conformance with FIA regs. Being a RHD car, and
along with the fact that I appreciate the FIA’s higher
standards for ‘‘period correctness’’, I am planning to build
the car to the FIA’s Appendix K regs and have obtained the
homologation papers for doing so.

The primary issue is that there are few (any?) USA E-Types
built to FIA standards. So, in short, I am looking for good
references and sounding boards for questions when they come
up. Perhaps this thread can be that resource or someone can
point me in the right direction.

I am experienced in the mechanics of Triumphs and Porsche
911’s, but this is my first Jaguar. I fell in love with the
silhouette many years ago and finally jumped in.

I would any thoughts from those familiar with FIA vintage
racing and look forward to your input.

Thanks,
Chuck–

Chuck,

welcome to the party! You will find LOTS of assistance here as
you being (and finish) your build. I would assume since your
in SC your prepping the car for SVRA?
As a cautionary note, I would verify with the sanctioning body
of what ever vintage racing organization your going to run
with if they accept an FIA class/prepared car. You may end up
with a really nice period correct FIA spec car that you can’t
run with anyone because they have no way to classify it and it
doesn’t conform to SCCA GCR of the period of prep.–

Thanks Bill. Yes, being in South Carolina I am in SVRA (or
VDCA) territory. I have some opposing restraints for the
project:

  • conform to FIA to preserve value of an original RHD car
(FIA cars are typically 50% to 100% higher in value)
  • conform to SVRA to maximize competitiveness and usability
    locally
  • maintain ‘‘period’’ look and feel, which is my own
    preference and leans towards FIA.

I think I can fairly easily get an FIA car into SVRA as they
tend to include ‘‘any other modification approved by the FIA
not stated here’’. But it’s a good point to be wary of the
items that could trip me up.

That’s what I’m thinking so far anyway !–

I have an FIA formula car and find that you can buy their requirements booklet which is very comprehensive, of course SCCA also has their rule book which you can access on line and which you’ll have to compete against if you’re in the US
