I recently acquired a 1986 XJ-S V12 coupe. I have not brought it
home yet but I am thinking of what I am going to with it. This one
of those ‘‘ran when parked’’ stories. The car has been sitting
outdoors under a tarp a few years. This was a package deal from
a ‘‘car buddy’’ who is trying to clear out his fleet. In order to get
the car I wanted I had to take the XJ-S. The car was so cheap the
worst I could do was haul to a metal recycler and come out even.
If I was to keep it I am thinking of using as a street legal track
car (track days/DE days not a full bore race car). The
only ‘‘luxury’’ items I would want to keep is the a/c (a necessity
here in TX) and a stereo.
For starters I want to know if the engine can be dropped with the
front sub assembly from the bottom. Second, does anyone manufacture
fiberglass panels for the XJ-S, such as bonnet, deck lid, fenders
and or fender flares, and body kits.

dont know of any custom lightweight parts , except the bumper
kits, more for looks than weight savins–

Dear Forteeeeeeeee? contact Art Dickenson of the Group 44 Pitt
Meadows, BC. Club as he has been through a process in working on
Carbon fiber panels for his XJ-S which he slalom-races all over the
US and Canada. His car ‘‘silver’’ can be found here on the photos
albums. Best, JW.–
