Radials vs Bias Ply Tyres on a MKV

I’ve just been reading an article on tyre ages. It seems that there is a little lozenge shaped marking that contains the date code. Three examples were quoted.

The most recent has a four digit number. The first two digits are the week number and the second two the year number in the range 2000 to present day. The example shows a photo with 1311 in the lozenge meaning week 13 in 2011.

For tyres manufactured in the year range 1990 to 1999 the lozenge has a three digit number with a small arrow head pointing in towards the number from the right hand side of the lozenge. The example given was 016 < meaning week 1 of 1996.

Tyres manufactured in the year range 1980 to 1989 also have a three digit number but without the little arrow. The example given was 071 meaning week 7 of 1981.

p.s I just check the tyres on my SS. Here is a couple of lozenges.

Here we have no tire date code gestapo.
This is on one I bought a couple of months ago.

Just curiously, are there any guides to codes older than 1980?

In the curious way that America writes dates, would that mean 18th Jan 2017…?
