For some time, I’ve had my eye out for a 1996 AJ16 engined 4.0 XJS Coupe, designated by the wonderous “TC” in the VIN code. Most model “S” year XJS imported into the USA were convertibles Even “SC” designated models are fairly rare. Does anyone know if any “TC” models were imported into the USA and if so how many?

I have a TC, but it’s a convertible.
I believe only 4 hard tops were produced for the 1996 model year. I’m not sure anyone knows where they were shipped to.
You are indeed lucky. How did you learn that only 4 coupes were produced in 1996?
I think all 1996 models are “Celebration” models and deemed “special”? I think all 1996 cars have the T in the VIN.
Not sure where I’ve read about the coupe production numbers…I’ll see if I can jog my memory.

I will add, I’ve never seen a 1996 coupe of any kind, nor a 1996 v12 in the wild…only the 4.0 convertibles.

The holy grail for me is a low mileage 1995 or 1996 (UK build late 1994 with a post 198334 VIN…as in one of the 1605 units you mentioned() LHD Jaguar XJS 4.0 AJ16 coupe, one, now elderly lady who drove it to church once a week before returning the car to it’s air conditioned, dehumidified garage to be attended by her full time employed Jaguar trained mechanic. Snowballs in Texas august maybe!

According to my book, for 6 cylinder XJS, does not specify RHD or LHD:
1994 coupes - 678
1994 convertibles - 2,309
1994.5 coupes - 307 (restyled with AJ6 engine)
1995 coupe - 3,022 - AJ16 engine
1995 convertible - 2,324 - AJ16 engine
1996 convertible - 5,490 - AJ16 engine

James Taylor’s book on the XJ-S lists the USA sales numbers in Appendix III.
For 1996 there was 1 V12 Coupe and 2 AJ16 Coupes sold.
Does it also give the USA stats for 1994 and 1995?

We have covered this many times in the past - there is a difference between model year and calendar year.
In calendar year 1996, there were only 1 coupe and 2 convertibles with V12 6.0L.
Model year 1996 - production begins in August 1995. Very hard to get a straight answer.
