I saw the July 2012 unanswered question on this subject but thought I would try again. The rear foglight socket on my 95 XJS is broken. Does anyone know of an interchange?

Rear fog light… Is that for backing up or what
It’s red, bright, and so cars behind you can see you in heavy fog. Required in much of the world. Deleted on many US version cars of all makes, but some, like Mercedes, retain them.

Yeah mine has them and I thought it was kinda odd, but after I thought about it for a little bit, it made some sense. Of course I have used mine more as “back-off” lights for tailgaters than anything! Lol! Works well sometimes
