When Refitting the rear screen does the chrome need fitting to the seal while off the car or after the screen is fitted?

I tried the lower after installing the glass; I had installed the upper before installing the glass. It is nearly impossible to do unless you are in the sun and it is about 90F/30C outside to make rubber soft. I learnt afterward that the trim should be installed first (except the corners).
